We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Senior Scientist with expertise in neuro - immunology or immunology to join our Neuroscience group at Merck West Point Site. The successful candidate will take an important role in our internal research efforts to identify and develop immune - based therapies for the treatment of neurological disorders. Primary responsibilities include the design and implementation of in - vitro experiments using genetic and pharmacological manipulation in relevant cell systems to validate novel targets and interrogate immune end - points. The position will also require the ability to study the scientific literature, develop new technical expertise, and be an active participant in scientific dialogue in project meetings and internal / external scientific meetings.

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • Degree in neuroscience, immunology, or related field plus relevant work experience in the area of neuroimmunology discovery:

  • Ph.D. OR Master’s Degree and at least 4 years of relevant work experience OR Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent and at least 7 years of relevant work experience.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Extensive experience in cell culture and development of in vitro functional assays.

  • Knowledge and experience in cellular immunology in innate and adaptive immunity.

  • Experience with molecular biology assays such as qPCR, Western blot, ELISA, etc.

  • Ability to independently design, execute, and interpret critical experiments.

  • Proven track record of generating publication quality data and contributing to manuscript or patent preparation.

  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills and keen ability to engage internal and external team members in collaborative research.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in both immunology and neurology.

  • Experience with technologies commonly used to assess immune endpoints.

  • Experience in isolation and characterization of primary immune cells of rodent and / or human origin.

  • Experience in functional genomics methods for target validation e.g. shRNA and CRISPR / Case9.
