The Associate Director will be a critical member of the Global Tender Center of Excellence (COE) at Merck leading critical projects in the realization of the team’s vision for Merck to optimize its profitability and mitigate risk in the Tender Channel.

This includes supporting the execution of the team’s key strategic imperatives:

  • Improving tender visibility to support strategic planning

  • Building Merck’s tender capabilities and analytics to optimize end to end tender planning and performance across markets

The Associate Director will interact with Global and Regional Market Access and Pricing, Information Technology, Global Franchises, Regional Operations, Finance, Merck Manufacturing, Policy, Markets and other functions as required.

The Associate Director will be responsible for supporting the development of business processes and technical solutions to enhance tender channel management and provide strategic options to key stakeholders. This will require the candidate to gain organizational alignment and lead critical change management initiatives across internal customers with multiple priorities.

The Associate Director will also support other COE team members, as required, in realization of team objectives such as analytics, training and other priority brand deliverables.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • The development and/or optimization of systems and processes to integrate tender data from multiple systems (SAP, MAXIS, CRMs) to support collaborative Tender Management processes and provide better tender data visibility across the enterprise.

  • Evaluate and implement digital technologies for data analytics and interactive visualization to help streamline tender management.

  • Conduct analysis and interpretation of tender data to gain insights, inform strategic options, and establish recommendations for internal customers.

Education Minimum Requirement:


  • BA/BS


  • MBA or MS Business Intelligence/Analytics or MA Organizational Development or MS Information Systems/Science.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum of (5) years Vaccines or Pharmaceutical industry experience or (5) years overall.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience within the Tender Channel

  • Strong Conceptual & Analytical Thinking Skills – needed to identify and develop solutions and to efficiently distill lessons learned from actual experience

  • Strong Project Management Skills – proven ability to manage diverse range of projects and competing priorities in a timely and compliant way

  • Demonstrated ability to lead informally in ambiguous situations; strong interpersonal skills and creativity

  • Outstanding skills in communication, planning, leadership, financial management, and general business management

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of data & information architecture, data management and reporting and analytics

  • Collaboration - must be able to collaborate with country, regional, & global colleagues on both strategic and tactical levels

  • Flexibility and tenacity

  • Consulting experience inclusive of Vaccine or Pharmaceuticals client support

  • Ability to be successful within a matrix organization
