Position Description

  • Reports to the Director, Corporate Responsibility, responsible for Merck’s United States Patient Assistance Programs (Merck PAP)

  • Manages Merck’s initiative to provide annual charitable contributions, where applicable and appropriate, to select, qualified independent charitable patient assistance foundations

  • Plans and executes charitable contributions in a manner that is consistent with applicable laws and regulations

  • Manages and implements all processes associated with this initiative

  • Consults with legal and compliance on a regular basis to ensure appropriate program operations

  • Executes appropriate agreements with recipient organizations, securing all necessary approvals

  • Provides management support to the Merck United States Patient Assistance Programs through which Merck provides certain Merck medicines and vaccines free-of-charge to eligible individuals in the U.S. and U.S. territories who, without assistance, could not afford their medications or adult vaccines.

  • In collaboration under the Director, Corporate Responsibility, identifies activities associated with Merck PAP product management and performs benchmark and process analyses to help deliver program, technology, communication, and resource efficiencies across the patient assistance programs

  • Responsible for program resource management across all program platforms including oversight of inventory levels, preparation of documentation for review system submission, and representation in Medical / Legal Board reviews

  • Helps prepare monthly financial reporting, tax reporting and yearly purchase order submissions

  • Supports the preparation and execution of national monthly product volume forecasts

  • Contributes to Merck’s strategy and approach for national patient assistance programs

  • Ensures adherence to Merck’s code of conduct, values, standards and policies, as well as program legal and compliance requirements and Merck PAP governance.

Education Minimum Requirement:

Bachelor’s Degree in business, public health or related field

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum six years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry and/or relevant experience in program management, philanthropy or public health/health policy

  • Strong organizational, planning and project management skills

  • Experience in financial analysis and data research

  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communications skills

  • Ability to work independently, exercise good judgement and manage concurrent, time-sensitive activities

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Experience with third party contract management oversight

  • Working knowledge of SAP forecasting systems /global supply planning and/or demand management experience

  • Experience with resource management oversight
