This role will have responsibility for the Diabetes and Vaccines Franchises strategic plans development and execution for Puerto Rico. Responsible for the marketing and sales management team. Leads the execution of business activities for the franchises ensuring that Merck Puerto Rico marketing programs are successfully implemented. This role will also coordinate with the Latin America and US regional teams to ensure that Puerto Rico needs are supported through the development of joint plans and resources assignment.

The Business Unit Director leads the organizational and succession planning processes for the Business Unit ensuring continuous development of talent within the organization. This position directly supervises three to five employees managerial position, indirectly supervises the sales force. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and retaining employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; providing training, coaching and counseling and development; managing performance and rewarding; and problem solving. The employee is required to attend business events during evenings and weekends. The employee is frequently required to travel within and outside Puerto Rico.

The position is based in Merck, Carolina, Puerto Rico. Relocation assistance is not included.


  • Required: BA/BS, Preferred: MBA

  • Five (5) or more years of experience within the pharmaceutical sales and marketing environment including direct selling, product management, business and people management.

  • Proficiency in both English and Spanish languages, in verbal and written.

  • Willing to travel up to 15% of the time.
