The Research and Development Sourcing and Procurement Department is responsible for conducting strategic sourcing initiatives in support of drug discovery and development within Merck Research Labs.

This is an entry level sourcing and procurement position. The ideal candidate should have an interest in learning the drug discovery and development process and apply business skills to support sourcing needs for internal business partners. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to support sourcing and procurement projects across the R&D Sourcing and Procurement organization, including but not limited to discovery sciences, preclinical development, clinical development, and lab supplies/lab equipment. Primary activities that the selected candidate will be responsible for include:

  • Provide project management and data analytics support for various department-wide initiatives including key financial metrics

  • Work with cross functional teams including Legal, Finance, Procurement Support Functions, MRL (Merck Research Labs) stakeholders, and external suppliers

  • Conduct detailed market analyses looking at facts and data, with the objective of providing deep and meaningful insights

  • Support ongoing sourcing projects by utilizing e-sourcing tools to conduct Request for Information, Request for Proposals from suppliers, and Reverse Auctions, as well as assist management of related risk and compliance due diligence and other contracting activities

Position Qualifications:

Education Minimum Requirement: BS in supply chain management, science, business, finance or other related major

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Advanced data analytics skills with strong knowledge and experience in Excel or other data analysis tools

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Strong presentation skills

  • Adaptable in dealing with ambiguous and complex environments

  • Proficient in Microsoft office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.)

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Experience with TIBCO Spotfire or other data analytic/visualization tools

  • Experience with using Excel to manage large data sets and working knowledge of SAP

  • Knowledge and experience in various data collection methods

  • Relevant experience in the pharmaceutical/life sciences industry or procurement, business development, contract management or relationship management
